This 2.5-hour course helps staff use the Carey Group's cognitive behavioral intervention tool, the Carey Guides to address criminogenic needs and common case management issues. The Guides help staff motivate people to change, maximize their strengths, and work on developing skills in areas such as recognizing thinking patterns, regulating emotions, identifying positive peer influences, and overcoming family challenges. Case studies, exercises, and scenario-based situations are used to increase understanding of how to use these tools effectively.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose, content, and structure of the Carey Guides
  • List three ways to use the Carey Guides as a cognitive behavioral intervention
  • Learn how the Guides are part of effective case management practices and contribute toward dosage
  • Explore five of the Guides and understand how best to use them
  • List strategies for encouraging interest and buy-in to use the Guides
  • Describe how to enhance your skills in using the Guides
